App integration with UPS
To connect UPS to ShipZip, you need two credentials from UPS: a Client ID and a Client Secret. UPS uses these to authorize ShipZip to pull live rates, generate labels, and track shipments on your behalf.
Here’s how to get them in under 10 minutes.
Before You Start:
You need an active UPS account. If you don’t have one yet, go to the UPS website and click Login to create a Shipper account first. You’ll need this account number later in the setup.
Step #1: Log in to the UPS Developer Portal:
Go to the UPS Developer Portal and log in with your regular UPS account username and password.
If this is your first time here, UPS may ask you to accept the API Access Agreement before you continue.
Step #2: Create a New App:
1. On the Apps page, click Add Apps.
2. Select a reason for requesting API credentials. Choose “I want to integrate UPS technology into my business”.
3. Choose the UPS account to link to these credentials. Select your existing shipper account, or add a new one if you don’t have it listed.
4. Click Next and fill in your address and contact information.
Step #3: Name Your App and Add Products:
On the App Details screen:
- Enter an app name, for example “ShipZip Shopify”. This is just a label for your reference.
- Leave the Callback URL field blank. ShipZip doesn’t need it.
- Under Add Products, add these two:
- Authorization (OAuth)
- Rating
- Click Save.
Note: The product list is often paginated. If you don’t see Rating on the first page, click through to page 2.
Step #4: Copy Your Client ID and Client Secret:
Once you save the app, UPS takes you to the app’s Credentials page. You’ll find both keys here:
- Client ID
- Client Secret
Click the copy icon next to each one to copy it to your clipboard.
Note: Keep your Client Secret private. Don’t share it over email or chat. Anyone with this key can access your UPS account through the API.
Still stuck? Contact ShipZip support or UPS customer support for assistance, and we’ll help you.
