Note: This feature is available exclusively for Shopify Plus stores.

The Pass Shipping Description Extension automatically saves the selected shipping method description during checkout.

Example

• Shipping Method: Standard Shipping
• Shipping Description: Delivery in 3–5 business days

The shipping description can be saved to:

• Order Attributes
• Order Metafields

Step 1: Open Checkout Editor

In Shopify Admin, navigate to:

Settings → Checkout → Edit

Step 2: Add the blog – “Pass Shipping Description”

Click on “Add Block”

Then search for Shipzip’s block called “Pass Shipping Description”

Step 3: Pass Shipping Description via “Order Attribute” or “Order Metafield”

Option 1: Save as Order Attribute

Order attributes are visible directly in the Shopify Admin order details.

Click on block “Pass Shipping Description” then on the right side configure the setting.

Select Pass Type: Attribute

Enter the attribute name where the shipping description will be stored.

Option 2: Save as Order Metafield

Before using Metafield mode, create an Order Metafield definition in Shopify.

Create an Order Metafield Definition.

Step 1: Setting > Metafields and metaobjects > Orders

Step 2: Click on “Add definition”

Step 3: Add the name of Metafield.

Example: “Shipping Method Description”

Then click on the meta field which is exactly below the name to see the namespace and key. Copy both we need to use it in the block.

Step 4: Choose the type of the metafield > “Single line text”

Step 5: Click “Save”

Now create the rule in the block.

Just enter the namespace and key in the block.

Choose Pass Type: Attribute 

Enter the namespace and key and click Save

Notes:

Attribute Mode

• No additional Shopify setup required.
• Data is stored as order attributes.
• Visible directly in Shopify order details.

Metafield Mode

• An Order Metafield definition must be created before use.
• Namespace and Key must exactly match the metafield definition.
• Recommended metafield type: Single line text

Attribute Mode

• Pass Type: Attribute
• Attribute Key: shipping_method_description

Metafield Mode

• Pass Type: Metafield
• Namespace: custom
• Metafield Key: shipping_method_description

This setup follows Shopify naming conventions and is recommended for most stores.
