Note: This feature is available exclusively for Shopify Plus stores.

The Pass Shipping Description Extension automatically saves the selected shipping method description during checkout.

Example:

• Shipping Method: Standard Shipping
• Shipping Description: Delivery in 3–5 business days

The shipping description can be saved to:

• Order Attributes
• Order Metafields

Step #1: Open Checkout Editor

In Shopify Admin, navigate to: Settings → Checkout → Edit

Step #2: Add the block – “Pass Shipping Description”

Click on “Add Block”

Then search for Shipzip’s block called “Pass Shipping Description”

Step #3: Pass Shipping Description via “Order Attribute” or “Order Metafield”

Option 1: Save as Order Attribute:

Order attributes are visible directly in the Shopify Admin order details.

Click on the block “Pass Shipping Description”, then on the right side configure the setting.

Select Pass Type: Attribute

Enter the attribute name where the shipping description will be stored.

Option 2: Save as Order Metafield

Before using Metafield mode, create an Order Metafield definition in Shopify.

Note: You must create the metafield with the following configurations.

Create an Order Metafield Definition.

Step #1: Setting > Metafields and metaobjects > Orders

Step #2: Click on “Add definition”

Step #3: Add the name of the Metafield.

Example: “Shipping Description”

Then click on the metafield and make sure that the namespace is set to “custom” and the key is set to “shipping_description”. Both the namespace and key are compulsory and must be entered exactly as specified.

This is exactly below the name; to see the namespace and key. Copy both; we need to use them in the block.

Step #4: Choose the type of the metafield > “Single line text”

Step #5: The “Copy values from matching cart metafields” option must be enabled.

Step #6: Click “Save”

Now create the rule in the block.

Choose Pass Type: Metafield

Enter the namespace and key and click Save.

Notes:

Attribute Mode:

• No additional Shopify setup required.
• Data is stored as order attributes.
• Visible directly in Shopify order details.

Metafield Mode:

• An Order Metafield definition must be created before use.
• Namespace and Key must exactly match the metafield definition.
• Recommended metafield type: Single line text
